Ryder Cup 2012

Davis Love III

We are one week away from the start of one of sport’s greatest rivalries. The US, comprised of many promising players, is hoping to use the home turf at Medinah Country Club to capture back the coveted trophy in this year’s Ryder Cup. Over the past year we have speculated who Captain Davis Love III would pick and who would ultimately qualify for the team. After the BMW Championship, Captain Love picked what I call the “standard” picks. He went with Jim Furyk, the ultimate competitor; Brandt Schnedeker, who week in-week out is one of the best putters; Dustin Johnson, a true rocket launcher; and Steve Stricker, mister consistent.

The question is, should the US change its picking strategy? Would a colorful player like Ricky Fowler bring the energy that the US needs? I think Jim Furyk is a great player and competes hard every time he tees the ball up, but when it comes to watching, it’s like paint drying on a wet afternoon. I agree with Dustin and Brandt as picks but I am going to go a different way with Stricker and Furyk.

My picks are Ricky Fowler and Hunter Mahan. How can a guy who has won twice this year and brought the trophy back to the US four years ago not make the team? I guess that is why I work in the golf shop and Davis Love is the Captain! I wish the team good luck and hope all of us golf fans get what we deserve…An American flag flying on Sunday afternoon with champagne fizzing all over!

I guess that last paragraph is only true if he wins. If not, maybe you should be coaching the team. Reply
